I believe it's the advertisers that give the stuff... but wow can't they get good publicity by donating to charity?
One hundred film stars including Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney and Sharon Stone have been handed goody bags with gifts worth $100,000 at this week's annual Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), according to US trade magazine the Hollywood Reporter.
Among the gifts in handed out at to VIPs at the festival are 30 first-class safaris in Kenya, each worth $30,000, and another 30 in India; a diamond dust exfoliating cream and a so-called "million-dollar treatment" which involves diamonds placed in the body's 'chakras’ to remove negative energies; and 15 limited-edition red Nespresso Le Cube coffee machines.
The goody bags also include a miniscule crescent handbag by London designer Bracher Emden specially created for Dubai's red carpet, with only a dozen of the $800-bags made in the world; Fendi sunglasses; clothes from New York fashion label Pink Tartan; costume jewellery from Denmark’s Pilgrim; Sphatika beauty and spa products; Jacques Dessange hair products; and signed copies of Deepak Chopra's latest novel 'Buddha'.

Dubois, Pelin and Associates is the company behind the luxury-laden goodie bags. Nathalie Dubois, president and CEO of the company has been running similar movie-related operations in Los Angeles, Cannes and Venice for the past few years, and was asked this year by the Dubai event to bring the concept to the emirate.
“Dubai is growing up as a film festival. This is very high-level marketing, and the opening is huge for any brand you're going to bring,” she told the Hollywood Reporter.
“The concept is to expose brands which are intended to interact with one another. The main goal for them is to be exposed in the media and be associated with the stars.”
Other celebrities attending the festival include director Michael Cimino, who is on the festival's Muhr Award jury, Steve Hickner, co-director of ‘Bee Movie’, Cuban singer Gloria Estefan, actress Michelle Yeoh, Egyptian heartthrob Khaled Abol Naga, Star Wars actor Hayden Christensen and O.C. star Rachel Bilson.
