|MUSLIM LEADERS ARRESTED AT WHITE HOUSE SIT-IN TO PROTEST SHARON VISIT|
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/26/2001) - Leaders of six national American Muslim
organizations were arrested in a non-violent "sit-in" outside the White House
to protest today's meeting between President Bush and Israeli Prime Minister
Those arrested during the act of civil disobedience included the executive
director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), as well as
representatives from American Muslim Council (AMC), American Muslims for
Jerusalem (AMJ), Muslim American Society (MAS), Muslim Public Affairs Council
(MPAC), and Solidarity International for Human Rights.
"Today we sent a message to President Bush that he should not legitimize a
world leader who has the blood of so many innocent Christians and Muslims on
his hands. This was also a message to the people of our nation that they
should not remain silent as Israel brutalizes the Palestinian people using
weapons paid for with American tax dollars," said CAIR Board Chairman Omar
Ahmad. Ahmad added that Sharon might view Bush's uncritical support as a
"green light" to carry out further attacks on the Palestinians.

Muslim Leaders Arrested for Protesting Sharon’s Visit to the White House
People of Conscious of All Faiths Protest Bush’s Hosting Ariel Sharon at
the White House
(Washington, DC, June 25, 2001) – Six leaders of major American Muslim
organizations were arrested today for an act of civil disobedience in front
of the White House expressing their outrage that President Bush received
Ariel Sharon. At least five-hundred protestors from all faiths and
demonstrated in front of the White House demanding the arrest of Ariel
for a track record of war crimes.
Abdurahman Alamoudi of the American Muslim Council (AMC), Khalid Turaani of
American Muslims for Jerusalem (AMJ), Yasir Bushnaq of Solidarity
for Human Rights (SIHR), Mahdi Bray of the Muslim Public Affairs Council
Shaker El-Sayed of the Muslim American Society (MAS), and Nihad Awad of the
Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) expressed their solidarity with
the Palestinians whose lives, land, and homes are under the siege of
The protesters represented a wide spectrum of American people of conscious

Currently Israel receives over $4 billion every year in monetary and
aid in the name of self-defense. This aid includes F-16s and Apache
