Blind Following of Madhhabs
What is the ultimate criteria of what is right and wrong in Islam? One might think that this is a straight forward question but the author points out that many Muslims throughout history have been confused over this issue. He highlights the sad decline of the Muslim ummah by showing how Muslims followed particular Madhabs (great religious teachers) to the point that they would leave off following the Quran and sunnah and pronounce takfeer (unbelief) on those who disagreed with them. The author exposes the fallicy of this thinking by showing how this contradicts the Quran, sunnah and the sayings of the Madhabs themselves. He shows with convinving proof that the only authentic and inffallible sources of Islam are found with the Quran, sunnah and the noble example of the companions of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh). This is a must read for those who may be confused by the many different scholarly opinions on a number of issues. I personally consider this book to be a commentary of sorts of the Quranic verse: "O ye who believe! Obey God, and obey the Apostle, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to God and His Apostle, if ye do believe in God and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination." (Quran 4:59)
